Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an exciting and dynamic buying office for a French retailer, based in either Hong Kong or Ningbo we are looking for a passionate Category Manager with experience in Furniture.

The role will focus on product development for indoor furniture, reporting to the Global Sourcing Director, you will be working closely with the buying teams to develop commercial, functional and trend led product for the French Market. You will build strong relationships and get the best from your local suppliers.

Category Manager – The role

  • Work with the European Buying and Design teams to understand the needs of the Customer and relevant trends. Use this information and your understanding of the Product Offer from the Country / Region to develop strategies to grow the business.
  • Stay updated with furniture and home trends and product directions.
  • Manage the product offer from the Country / Region. Develop strategies with your local suppliers to offer the company a competitive edge.
  • Work on business forecasts, assortment planning and merchandise strategy including ecommerce business.
  • Solve problems and deal with issues professionally and promptly as they arise.

Category Manager – The candidate

  • Degree or similar qualification
  • Merchandising experience in a similar product area is preferred.
  • Experience within product development for furniture is essential
  • Knowledge and working experience of the French Market is required.
  • You will have a strong creative and commercial background, and be trend aware.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels as well as strong relationship building skills.
  • Have a thorough understanding of offshore development procedures, factory sourcing and critical path management.
  • You will have strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • You will have a passion for product, be results driven, dynamic and an excellent team player.
  • You will be willing and able to travel regularly
  • You will speak fluent English, with French and/or Mandarin preferred.
