Job Description

A new opportunity has arisen in the East Midlands to work for a market leader. Recruiting for an experienced Fabric Technologist an exciting and diverse range of multiple apparel projects.  This role is for an initial one year contract.

Working with the Design and Commercial teams on all manner of Fabric projects, for existing clients and major new business projects.  Liaising with the supply base to obtain sampling in support of such projects.

Monitoring and approving pre-production fabric, liaising with designers and technical teams on fabric performance and testing, and maintaining effective communication on all technical aspects of the fabric specification required.

Working closely with Account Managers and Designers in developing fabrics from concept through to final approval ensuring the critical path is kept on schedule.

This role will report to a Fabric Technical Manager, and be part of a team of 4 responsible for fabric development including lab dip approval.

Fabric Technologist – The Job Description

  • Manage Tender requirements for fabric technical information, instruct sample lengths in a timely manner for Tender submission
  • Involved in the set up and management of critical paths for new developments
  • Organise Testing of fabrics and garments via external accredited test house
  • Represent the company at Customer review meetings when required
  • Problem solving for fabric development with internal customers
  • Maintain our new Product Data Management system for creating specifications and product lifecycle controls
  • Advise design, Technical and Purchasing on fabric development issues
  • Update and maintain the fabric library

Fabric Technologist – The Person Specification

  • Previous experience within the position of Fabric Technical/Fabric Technologist or similar opportunity. A good knowledge and awareness of UK/European fabric testing standards and requirements with strong practical skills.
  • Experience of working with a variety of different fabric bases, jersey and woven,
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to liaise with colleagues within the business/externally with the customers.
  • An effective communicator at all levels, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise and to switch between different tasks as required.
  • Problem-solving skills and decision-making ability.
  • Competent proficiency in Microsoft packages, systems and software. A knowledge of PLM would be beneficial.
  • Ability to travel UK and offshore
