Job Description

As Factory Manager for this premium apparel manufacturer, your role will be to oversee the production process, coordinating all production activities and operations, and maintaining exceptional quality levels.  You will be required to plan and draw up a production schedule. Decide on and order the resources that are required and ensure stock levels remain adequate. Select equipment when required and take responsibility for its maintenance. You will also be required to manage Budgets and work directly with the Production Director and Product development Assistant.  

Factory Manager – The Job Description

  • Manage and oversee the Factory team, including the factory Supervisor, covering holiday planning, recruitment, and all in house training, motivating, and supporting the team.
  • Calculate factory production capacity and liaise with Production Director and HOM to produce high level overview factory plan.
  • Prepare and maintain weekly Production reports to present delivery updates to the Production Director.
  • Analyses and look in depth at Production data for the wider sense of the business
  • Calculate and order all fabric to the required specification and quality standards, covering both the core and seasonal nature of the business.
  • Order all production consumables – threads/labels/packaging etc and maintain all stock levels, and perform regular stock takes as and when required. 
  • Manage the flow of work from cutting, through manufacture, to the despatch of goods in a timely manner according to the delivery schedule and to the quality specified.
  • Review, update, and issue manufacturing schedule to Factory Supervisor weekly and liaise daily to advise on any workflow/quality issues.
  • Liaise with Senior Product Developer to produce pre-production samples and seasonal selling samples.
  • Produce weekly production reports to monitor factory output and performance
  • Ensure machinery is safe and well maintained and liaise with outside contractors to attend to machine/equipment breakdown.
  • Calculate costings for all garments manufactured in the Factory.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety regulations are adhered to withing the Factory.
  • Be proactive in the continued development of the Factory to ensure its continued growth, and potential cost savings could be made to improve Margins.

Factory Manager – The Person Specification

  • 4/5 years’ experience within a Factory Management apparel role preferably with a good understanding of working with jersey.
  • A strong knowledge of Manufacturing standards and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and planning and communication skills.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Proactive, highly organised person – with an eye for detail
  • Ability to work on own initiative and manage own time.
  • Understanding of working to critical dates and deadlines.
  • Exceptional understanding of quality and attention to detail.  
  • Very competent with IT, able to use, Word, Excel, and other clothing related in house software packages competently
  • Well organised, systematic, and logical.
  • Highly motivated with a disciplined approach to problem solving.
  • Relevant degree or experience in this field.
