Job Description

Our client is one of the UK’s leading body armour & tactical equipment/clothing manufacturers based in Yorkshire.

As a successful and growing business we are recruiting for a Garment Technologist to join a head office in Leeds . Reporting directly to the Product Manager, the ideal candidate will have a good knowledge and skills in garment construction and design. You will be working across all apparel and armour collections for Menswear, Womenswear and Accessories. This is a great opportunity to work alongside the Product Development team on future projects in creating collections from generating ideas to finished products and assisting in the marketing of the brand.

Garment Technologist – The Job Description

  • Creating a detailed tech pack for each product advising key measurements and construction details produced for the factory to follow using a PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system.
  • Product development relating to the garments technical issues, such as aiding with the selection of which trims, fabrics and accessories for development.
  • Work closely with the Freelance Designer & Pattern Maker as well as other team members and departments to strengthen the business as a whole.
  • Sewing garment toiles/ first time samples.
  • Measuring and fitting of samples during the development process.
  • Prepare garment Technical Drawings using CAD (Adobe Illustrator)
  • Assisting in garment Quality checks and completing documentation.
  • Maintenance of Critical Path & Project planning.
  • Reviewing test reports and completing technical documentation.
  • Liaising with International suppliers and factories
  • Ensure all products are up-to-date and in compliance with current EU regulations, managing the process of all regulatory affairs such as product registration, product notification and safety assessments; considering international regulation implications.
  • Assisting in time planning the design & marketing calendar, to ensure deadlines are met.

Garment Technologist – The Person Specification

    • Previous experience within a garment technical position. An interest in technical performance clothing would be advantageous.
    • Essential to have a strong technical knowledge including fitting, garment construction and grading.
    • Must demonstrate basic sewing skills.
    • Adobe Creative Suite competence is a must.
    • Skills Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Gmail, Google Docs).
    • Proficient and thorough research skills.
    • An interest in innovation and creativity.
    • Knowledge of fabric, lab testing and test results.
    • The ability to effectively communicate across all areas of the business.
    • Ability to work in structured and timely manner under pressure within a team environment.
