Job Description

Attractive opportunity to lead a Technical team of Garment Technologists and Fabric Technologists in Sri Lanka.  Your remit is to ensure they are trained for their roles and effective in supporting the factories, to produce consistently good production quality that meets UK retail specification, product safety and performance standards.

Technical Manager – The Job Outline

  • Monitor technical KPI's and ensure Action Plans are in place to ensure constant improvement
  • Monitor the performance of the Regional business and ensure adequate resources are provided to make it successful.
  • Get Involved as much as possible in changing the product focus within the office towards higher value product. Help achieve the targeted average selling price.
  • Technical and Merchandising teams to work closely to help achieve targeted on-time deliveries
  • Visit UK Head Office to receive feedback on performance/ promote Sri Lanka. Maintain regular communication between region and Head Office teams
  • Together with the Merchandising team, to develop a strategy to make the Sri Lanka supply base 'robust'.
  • Ensure Supplier Appraisals are co-ordinated between Merch and Tech teams. Ensure Fabric supplier appraisals are introduced for key suppliers.
  • Visit and approve any new suppliers before placing orders
  • Promote Organic, Fair Trade and other specialist / niche product areas.
  • Implement rating system for external sample rooms. Increase number of sample rooms undertaking direct sampling. Work with internal sample room to improve performance. Ensure correct level of focus is given by alt departments towards development sampling
  • Monitor levels of Technical autonomy within the supply base and ensure they reach targeted levels
  • Initiate with the help of the Product Managers quarterly product presentations to increase the knowledge of internal / sample rooms
  • Together with HR, put in place structured and effective internal and external training programs for all technical staff
  • Ensure strategies and plans are in place to achieve all sampling objectives.

Technical Manager – The Job Outline

  • Previous experience within similar, ‘hands on ‘, senior garment technical management. Minimum of 10years.   Essential to have supplied UK retailers, preferably Next.
  • Solid garment manufacturing experience with a broad multi apparel, technical and compliance background.
  • The ideal applicant will have experience within a buying house environment.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, with good interpersonal skills
  • Be solution focused and an effective problem solver
  • Ability to work under pressure and fast moving environment
  • Understanding of pattern/pattern alterations fittings
  • Excellent communication, planning and leadership skills.
