Job Description

Fantastic opportunity for a Graduate Designer (with 12 months practical experience) to train under the guidance of a Head of Design and Senior Designer. To produce swimwear which is technically and commercial viable, and in line with brand and market requirements.  To develop an understanding for engineering swimwear to meet targeted cost price. To support the technical process and general workload for the department.

Trainee Technical Designer – The Job Specification:

  • To design swimwear ranges which are fit for purpose, to include learning about the design process, from initial idea, to costing through to fitting.
  • Working with Lectra Modaris. 
  • Learning about the markets and market requirements.
  • Using the costing system to create and amend costings.
  • Learning technical grading and fitting to the approved standard.
  • Designing commercially viable and aesthetically pleasing products.
  • Chasing suppliers and other departments to ensure the design process follows the critical path.
  • Ensuring fabrics and prints selected are viable within the technical restraints of the larger cup sized market.
  • Working with the Technical office to ensure products are feasible in manufacture.
  • Checking grading critical path and working with seniors to ensure garments are on time and inline with critical path process. 
  • General department Admin, chasing and organisation of samples.

Trainee Technical Designer  – Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • BA Design graduate in fashion/contour, ideally with swim or lingerie related studies
  • Practical work experience/internship within a design, or product development/technical
  • Strong eye for print/colour and detail
  • Good pattern cutting skills.  A knowledge of Lectra/Modaris would be beneficial but training will be provided.
  • Confident communication, organisation and administration skills.
  • Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator.
  • A good team player.
  • Excellent attention to detail and willing to go the extra mile!
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driving licence/access to Car due to location
