Job Description

Recruiting for an experienced and CAD skilled senior designer/ Design Manager from a multi apparel background.  

You will be responsible for designing innovative and fit for performance ranges; womens and menswear, outerwear to accessories and footwear. This will be a 12month initial maternity cover contract to manage the department and a designer.  The position can be offered on a full time or part time basis, dependent on the candidate and the requirements of the business.

Our client is a leading bespoke corporate clothing provider, designing, manufacturing and suppling uniforms to an exciting mix of existing and new blue-chip organisations including a major international sports event.

Design Manager – The Job outline

  • Liaise with Customers / Account Managers to develop multi product collections and creative ideas for complete corporate clothing wardrobes to include accessories, footwear, outerwear, Womenswear and Menswear.
  • Monitor product performance and use data to direct future developments.
  • Undertake trend research, customer, and trend analysis; from catwalk to social media - presenting customer research and buying trends.
  • Aid in developing the design growth strategy and sales plan in line with the Critical Path.
  • Deliver an excellent fabric knowledge; to ensure fabrics selected are suitable to the project and/or a corporate clothing standard, on brand, the best quality for the price bracket and consolidated across ranges where possible.
  • Work closely with Product Development team in technical handovers, fabric/lapdip approvals and fit meetings.
  • Advise on current production capabilities and limitations to ensure design is executed in a realistic output and timeframe.
  • Budget Management: keen understanding of price architecture, margins and market pricing. Ensuring costs are closely monitored and projects are delivered within budget parameters of each individual client requirement.
  • Creation of product specification and technical packs.
  • Attend garment fit sessions and sample amendments.
  • Factory visits and fabric sourcing trips.
  • Liaise with other creative teams within the company for marketing and styling purposes.
  • Inspire, motivate, and lead the Design team . Develop and manage KPIs for the department and the designers individually.
  • Ensure effective working practices are always present and management of Critical Path.
  • Assist the Head of Supply Chain in planning for the design department’s growth.

Design Manager – The Person Specification

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role (Design Manager) or senior designer looking to step up to next level .  Multi apparel design background is essential ie. tailoring to softs to sports.
  • Additional graphic/print skills would be advantageous.
  • Fashion Design Degree or similar.
  • An excellent technical understanding of garment design, fabrication and fit.
  • Strong CAD, excellent Photoshop, and Illustrator skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), confident in presenting work to key decision makers.
  • Self motivated, with a proactive, ‘anything is possible’ attitude to work
  • Ability to prioritise own work/and manage department deadlines
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Team leader skills.
  • Own car and ability to travel to clients’ offices for meetings/presentations.
