Description

We are recruiting for an exceptional Garment Technical Director to lead all technical operations for the production of men’s formalwear, with a focus on tailored suits. The role requires expert knowledge in garment construction, pattern development, production engineering, and quality assurance systems.

The successful candidate will ensure production efficiency, style accuracy, and quality consistency across all manufacturing stages. Agreeing and delivering Customer standards from development through to bulk production.

Train technical and production teams on new methods, quality standards, and best practices.

Garment Technical Director – Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of construction standards for all tailored products (jackets, trousers, waistcoats).
  • Lead a team of garment technicians, QA managers, and technical developers.
  • Oversee sample development and ensure accurate interpretation of design and tech packs.
  • Validate make-up methods for different price/quality levels (e.g., half-canvas vs. fused).
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in sewing, pressing, and finishing processes.
  • Evaluate manufacturing lines and provide technical input to optimize layout, method, and throughput.
  • Liaise with production and maintenance teams to ensure machine setup aligns with product needs.
  • Standardize seam allowances, stitch densities, shoulder padding, lapel shaping, and lining application.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Conduct technical audits of pre-production, inline, and final inspections.
  • Align QA processes with client standards and international best practices.
  • Collaborate with pattern makers to refine blocks for consistent sizing and fit.
  • Provide direction on correcting issues and build internal knowledge for handling complex constructions ie. double-breasted jackets or peak lapels.

Garment Technical Director – Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in garment manufacturing, with at least 5 years in men’s formalwear.
  • Ideal experience having worked with brands aka M&S, Hugo Boss, Jaeger or similar.
  • Degree or diploma in Apparel Technology, Garment Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Deep knowledge of tailored construction methods, from canvas application to pressing standards.
  • Proven success in implementing quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AQL, Higg FEM preferred).
  • Strong understanding of fabric behaviour (wool, poly-viscose, blends) and interfacing.
  • Excellent technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Ability to interpret specs and communicate clearly across pattern, sewing, and finishing teams.
  • Fluent in English; other languages (Khmer, Mandarin, Bengali) would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with CAD systems (Gerber, Lectra) and PLM platforms.
