My client, a premium brand, are looking to appoint an additional Garment Technologist into their technical team, at their Head Office based in Central London.

 

The role will be covering menswear predominantly and support the womenswear side as and when required. This role works closely with the product lifecycle, ensuring high standards of garment quality, fit, and functionality are met for the brand.

 

Working closely with product team, designers, and suppliers, the role involves managing technical aspects from concept to completion while maintaining compliance, ethical standards, and commercial viability.

 

Garment Technologist- Menswear: The Role

Fits:

  • Ensure garments meet customer expectations for fit, performance, quality and comfort while complying with all relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Create and manage product workbooks for inline ranges and SMUs, developing specifications from initial design sketches through to grading bulk production.
  • Conduct garment fittings on live models, confidently approving fits and sealing bulk production, while providing clear, concise technical and fit comments to suppliers within critical path deadlines. Aiming for turnaround of 48 hours.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Developers, Designers, and factories on garment construction, patterns, grading, specifications, and make-up requirements to improve fit, finish, consistency, and cost efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain core fit blocks across key product areas to ensure consistency season after season and support reduction in sampling.
  • Measure, prepare, and review samples for fit sessions, managing fit model casting and bookings where required.
  • Investigate and resolve technical and production issues, ensuring products are delivered to the highest standards across all stages of development.
  • Analyse seasonal customer returns and conduct competitor research to identify technical improvements, new techniques and opportunities to reduce return rates and enhance product performance.
  • Build strong working relationships with suppliers, technical teams and cross-functional departments to support efficient product development and delivery.

Testing & Compliance:

  • Responsible for setting base and bulk testing requirements in line with REACH standards and compliance regulations.
  • Review and approve test reports, ensuring production AQL standards are met.
  • Maintain and manage testing approval trackers to ensure timely updates and critical path visibility.
  • Investigate and resolve quality and compliance issues with factories and suppliers.
  • Advise on and approve wash care instructions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage quality control reports and analyse customer returns data to identify recurring issues and drive product improvements.

Compliance & Supply Chain:

  • Review supplier and factory compliance, including audits, CAPs, risk assessments and development action plans.
  • Conduct supplier and factory visits to monitor quality, compliance and operational standards.
  • Support supplier and factory onboarding, ensuring compliance and risk requirements are met.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry transparency, compliance and sustainability legislation.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives within the role, including reducing sampling, improving sealing hit rates and supporting more efficient product development processes.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support commercial decision-making through technical expertise and product insight.
  • Lead and support projects in line with business objectives and operational requirements.
  • Identify and streamline administrative processes to improve efficiency and workflow.
  • Contribute to initiatives focused on reducing customer returns and improving product performance.
  • Provide technical support across other brands within the Batra Group when required.
  • Review and support new sourcing opportunities, leveraging previous supplier and product development experience.
