Reporting to the Head of Sourcing, this is a rare opportunity recruiting for an experienced Fabric Technical Manager. To be commercially responsible for sourcing innovative and cost effective fabrics which are deliverable in line with the critical path and the Customers’ expectation.
Monitoring and approving pre-production fabric and liaising with Customers and Technical Teams on fabric performance and testing; from initial concept to final production. Handling technical issues as department lead.
Responsible for the creation and delivery of new fabrics in conjunction with Design, Fabric Buying, Production, Technical Teams and the Customer. Collaborating with global supply base to identify newness, new technologies and sustainability options for fabric and trims, whilst achieving targets and minimums.
The post will be based from a Head Office in the East Midlands, with extensive business travel to suppliers, Customers and visits to sister sites as required.
Fabric Technical Manager – The Job Specification
- Responsible for the creation and delivery of new products, in conjunction with the design, production and technical team
- Attend initial Customer meetings to understand technical requirements
- Assist with presentations to customers.
- Keep up to date with the latest technology
- Attend fabric shows to source new fabric developments and keep up to date with Innovation.
- Manage Fabric Development Team.
- Manage Tender requirements for fabric sourcing routes, instruct sample lengths in a timely manner for Tender submission
- Involved in the set up critical paths for new developments,
- Organise Testing of fabrics and garments via external accredited test house.
- Represent the company at Customer review meetings when required
- On Site problem solving for fabric development with factories
- Develop with environmental and ethically compliant factories
- Set quality and performance standards and quality control procedures within factory’s
- Maintain new Product Data Management system for creating specifications and product lifecycle controls.
Fabric Technical Manager – Skills & Requirements
- Educated to degree standard in Textile Design, Technology/Management or similar.
- A high level of technical knowledge, and fabric sourcing with strong practical skills, ideally at managerial level.
- Essential experience within the fashion & textiles with broad knowledge of base fabrics, trims etc. Ability to identify and analyse a wide range of materials. A knowledge of treatments, innovation in performance fabrics would be beneficial.
- Experience in all aspects of fabric testing procedures.
- Ability to manage and motivate people within a small team.
- Proven-solving skills and decision making ability.
- Ability to prioritise and to switch between different tasks as required.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with suppliers and colleagues all at levels.
- Highly proficient in MS Office with PLM experience.
